Description --------------- iLO Amplifier Pack is an advanced server inventory, firmware and driver update solution that enables rapid discovery, detailed inventory reporting, firmware, and driver updates by leveraging iLO advanced functionality. iLO Amplifier Pack performs rapid server discovery and inventory for thousands of supported servers for the purpose of updating firmware and drivers at scale. 1.1 Update recommendation -------------------------- Recommended. 1.2 Supersede information -------------------------- iLO Amplifier Pack 2.10 and all earlier versions. 1.3 Product models ------------------- iLO Amplifier Pack 1.4 Devices supported ---------------------- iLO Amplifier Pack supports the following HPE ProLiant servers: * HPE ProLiant Gen8 (Rack, Tower, and Blade) servers * HPE ProLiant Gen9 (Rack, Tower, and Blade) servers * HPE ProLiant Gen10 and Gen10 Plus (Rack, Tower, and Blade) servers * HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus Server * Edgeline and Moonshot server blades with iLO 5 - HPE ProLiant m750 Server Blade - HPE ProLiant e910 Server Blade - HPE ProLiant e910t Server Blade * HPE Apollo 4000 Systems (Gen10 Plus, Gen10 and Gen9 with iLO5 or iLO4) NOTE: * SPP-based online/offline updates are not available for Edgeline and Moonshot devices. Use the Edgeline/Moonshot firmware and software component packs to update these devices from the Servers page in iLO Amplifier Pack. The following browsers are supported for running the iLO Amplifier Pack web interface: - Chrome v90.0 or later - Firefox v88.0 or later The following settings must be enabled in the browser: - JavaScript — Client-side JavaScript is used by this application. - Cookies — Ensure to enable cookies for certain features to function correctly. - Pop-up windows — Ensure to enable pop-up windows for certain features to function correctly. Verify that pop-up blockers are disabled. - TLS — Ensure to enable TLS in the browser to access the web interface. 2.3 Languages -------------- Languages supported for this release: - English 2.4 Prerequisites to host iLO Amplifier Pack --------------------------------------------- Ensure that the host machine meets the hardware requirements to run any of the following: * A host server configured with VMware ESXi 6.7U3 or later. * Windows hypervisor for Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019. * KVM on any of the following operating systems: - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and above. - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.7 and above. - SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP1 or SP2 - SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP4 or SP5 The iLO Amplifier Pack guest VM requires the following minimum resources to be available on the ESXi server, Windows Hyper-V, or KVM: * 4 vCPUs * 8 GB RAM * 100 GB of reserved HDD space * 1.0 Gbps Network Ports (2) 2.5 Prerequisites for managed servers -------------------------------------- Servers must have the following recommended component versions to be managed by iLO Amplifier Pack: * Gen8 and Gen9 servers - iLO 4 v2.76 or later - AMS (iLO Agentless Management Service) v10.95.0 or later for Windows or AMS v2.10.0 or later for Linux - iSUT v2.5.0 or later * Gen10 and Gen10 Plus servers - iLO 5 v2.30 or later - AMS v2.10 or later for Windows and AMS v2.3.0 or later for Linux, and AMS v2020.09.01 or later for ESXi - iSUT v2.5.0 or later * Edgeline/Moonshot servers - iLO 5 v2.30 and later - AMS v2.30 and later - For more information about obtaining the required software, see to the following websites: - iLO: www.hpe.com/servers/ilo - AMS:www.hpe.com/us/en/product-catalog/detail/pip.5219980.html - SUT/iSUT: http://www.hpe.com/servers/sut 2.6 Prerequisites for performing updates ----------------------------------------- * The recommended SPP version is 2021.10.0. * For all generation of servers - SPP (Service Pack for ProLiant) Version 2020.09.0 or later downloaded from www.hpe.com/servers/SPP. * If you are planning to use a web server for firmware updates, ensure that the web server includes the following: - An HTTP/HTTPS share that hosts SPP iso images and files. - The following file extensions added to the MIME Types setting to ensure correct downloading: – .bin – .iso – .xml – .pdb - .fwpkg - .hex - .vme - .flash * iSUT (Integrated Smart Update Tools) v2.5.0 or later installed on all generation of servers * Bootable baseline ISO image of the firmware update imported into iLO Amplifier Pack. For more information, see "Importing a baseline" in the iLO Amplifier Pack User Guide. Or Bootable baseline ISO image of the firmware update extracted to a shared HTTP/HTTPS location on the network and a dedicated web server for hosting SPP (HPE Support Pack for ProLiant) ISO images and files. * SPP-based online/offline updates are not available for Edgeline and Moonshot devices. Use the Edgeline/Moonshot firmware and software component packs to update these devices from the Servers page in iLO Amplifier Pack. IMPORTANT: Before commencing online updates, ensure that AMS is running and SUT Mode is set to AutoDeployReboot or AutoDeploy. 2.7 Prerequisites for performing server system restore ------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Server system recovery can be performed on HPE ProLiant Gen10 Servers and above only. Before performing the recovery, verify that the HPE ProLiant Server has the following components installed: * iLO 5 v2.30 or later for Gen10 servers and iLO 5 v2.30 or later for Gen10 Plus servers * iLO Advanced license * SPP v2020.09.0 or later * iLO Amplifier user with Configure Manager with Security privilege NOTE: The default user in iLO Amplifier Pack does not have the Configure Manager with Security privilege. 3. Installation and upgrading the iLO Amplifier Pack ---------------------------------------------------------------- * For detailed instructions about installing iLO Amplifier Pack, see "Installing iLO Amplifier pack" in the iLO Amplifier Pack User Guide. * For detailed information on upgrade instructions, see "Upgrading the appliance firmware" in the iLO Amplifier Pack User Guide. NOTE: HPE iLO Amplifier Pack v2.12 binary in-place update will fail when performed on iLO Amplifier Pack v1.95 and earlier. For HPE iLO Amplifier Pack v1.95 and earlier, perform a new installation of HPE iLO Amplifier Pack v2.12 instead of an update. The iLO Amplifier Pack backup and restore is described in the HPE iLO Amplifier User Guide in the "Configuring the iLO Amplifier Pack appliance" chapter in the "Backup and Restore" section. 4. Enhancements -------------------- 4.1 iLO Amplifier Pack 2.12 release enhancements and fixes ------------------------------------------------------------ This version adds support for the following fixes and enhancements: * Fixed an issue with Stack Based Buffer Overflow Leading to Remote Code Execution (HPESBGN04246 / CVE-2021-29220). * Fixed an issue where iLO Amplifier GUI is unresponsive due to spurious UnauthenticatedEventReceived events. * Fixed an issue in Alert Settings where the user gets an error message for invalid email address. * Introduction of new midway servers and deprecation of a few existing midway servers. * Appliance OS updates. 5. Known issues ---------------- * Activity logs and alerts page does not display any information - Symptom Post a CSR generation, you may notice that the Activity Logs and Alerts page might not display any information - Action Reboot iLO Amplifier Pack. * Failed to reboot iLO Amplifier Pack from the GUI - Symptom Occasionally unable to reboot iLO Amplifier Pack from the diagnostics page. - Action Reboot using hypervisor. * HTTP protocol error may appear in iLO when you enable USP as an add-on service from HPE InfoSight and a service event occurs - Symptom For HPE iLO 5 (versions lesser than 2.30), and for all HPE iLO 4 versions, the HTTP Protocol error appears in iLO remote support page and iLO Event log. - Action No action required. However, for HPE iLO 5, update to versions higher than 2.30. * iLO Amplifier Pack might become unresponsive when multiple delete server operations are performed. - Symptom While server inventory is in progress and multiple server delete operations are performed, the iLO Amplifier Pack might become unresponsive. - Action 1.Do not perform server delete operations during server inventory. 2.Reboot the appliance if iLO Amplifier Pack is unresponsive for a while. * An enabled add-on service might change to disabled state after an iLO Amplifier Pack reboot. - Symptom After an iLO Amplifier Pack reboot, some add-on services might be in a disabled state. - Action Manually enable the add-on service after the iLO Amplifier Pack reboots. * Custom report displays additional information when filtered only forserver family and server type - Symptom The custom report displays information for data that was not selected when filtered by a specific Server Family and Server Type under Basic Details. - Action Open the CSV file using any CSV viewer and apply the necessary filters to get the required data. * Contents of removable storage media are not listed when an external USB drive is inserted - Symptom When using certain USB devices, the contents of removable storage media are not listed when an external USB drive is inserted. - Action 1.Power down the virtual machine. 2.In the virtual machine hardware settings, change the USB controller compatibility from "USB 2.0" to "USB 3.0". 3.Power on the virtual machine. * iLO Repository Updates and Server Recovery sometimes fail on theservers with iLO 5 v1.30 Firmware - Symptom iLO Repository Updates and Server Recovery may fail sometimes on the servers with iLO 5 v1.30 Firmware with the following error: 1.iLO Repository Online Update failed to create the Install set. a. iLO Response Message: The value ComponentRepository filename for the property xxxxxx (Component name) isnot in the list of acceptable values. b. Solution: Choose a value from the enumeration list that the implementation can support and resubmit the request if the operation failed. 2. iLO Repository Online Update failed to upload the component to iLO Repository. 3. iLO Repository Online Update task timed out. - Action 1. Clear iLO Repository, and retry the task again. 2. Upgrade to iLO 5 v1.37 or above and retry. * Incorrect CSV file downloaded for activity logs - Symptom Incorrect CSV file may be downloaded for activity logs when the log count is greater than 100,000 records. - Action Clear the activity logs once in 30 days. * Search does not work for certain columns on the InfoSight Status Report page. - Symptom Search does not work for columns on InfoSight Status Report page except for the "iLO Address" and "Serial Number and Product ID" columns. - Action Export the report to a CSV file and use any CSV viewer to search for the required data. * Servers listed twice - Symptom Servers are listed twice in iLO Amplifier Pack when an iLO configured with a shared port is discovered using IP and FQDN. - Action Discover an iLO configured with shared port as either an IP or an FQDN. * Servers not listed in GUI - Symptom Servers are not listed in GUI when a server is discovered in iLO Amplifier Pack using an FQDN as both server and Federation Group. - Action Discover the server using IP address when you want to discover under server and Federation Group. * Unable to add an iLO Federation group using an IPv6 address or FQDN - Symptom Unable to add an iLO Federation group using an IPv6 address or FQDN. - Action Add iLO Federation groups using an IPv4 address. iLO Amplifier pack does not support managing iLO Federation Groups using IPv6. This feature will be added in a future release. * SPP upload fails occasionally despite the GUI displaying availability of disk space - Symptom SPP upload might fail when the available disk space runs low. - Action Delete the older SPP and re import the most recent SPP. 6.
